Two Exercises that Destroy your Body
If you’re not familiar with Crossfit and you want to get into shape check it out. If you’re in or around Vancouver talk to Popeye. He is the dude that you want on your side.
Crossfit is a combination of powerlifting, gymnastics and aerobic training. It is pretty effective if you can get through the workouts.
I faced two of my old nemisises (what is the plural of nemisis?) today. Overhead squats and thrusters. I’ve been pretty good with my diet and getting to the gym lately but these two bad boys still killed me, especially the old legs.
With overhead squats, you hold a bar above your head with your elbows locked and maintain this position into and out of a deep squat. How much weight you use depends on your strength, balance and coordination. Popeye has his students start with a broomstick and even that is tough for most people.
Thrusters are a little different but just as deadly. In this case, you support a barbell across your chest and from a standing position and go into a deep squat. Come out of the squat and press the barbell above your head to a locked position. Lower the barbell to your shoulders and repeat.
Both of these are full-body exercises and both kill. Check out the videos below for a better idea of the technique.
