The Excitement is Mounting
Next week, I’m heading off to the UK to begin my next adventure and I must admit that I’m pretty excited about it. There is something to be said for making a decision and then just going for it.
I’ve had my European passport for a couple of years now and I’ve been meaning to leverage it more than just by visiting Brazil without needing a visa. So now is the time.
I’ve been madly scouring the job boards in the UK and I’ve been pleased with the results I’ve been getting back. I find it funny that everyone everywhere is squawking about the world-wide recession and credit crunch yet there are still so many job and contract listings for marketers.
I guess that is because smart business people know that a good marketer will always generate significantly more revenue that he or she will cost. If not, find yourself a real marketing person.
But this post isn’t about marketing. It is about decision making and how critical it is to success. In physics there is an expression that says, “Nothing happens until something moves.” In life, I believe that is also true but even before something can “move” a decision must be made to make it move.
We can think about doing something and even say that we’ll do it but if there isn’t that decision (which I equate with commitment) it isn’t likely that anything will happen. However, when you’ve really made that decision you feel different. You have that feeling that you’re going to do whatever it takes to make things work out the way you want them to.
It is a great feeling and one that I’m feeling right now. In four days I’ll be hopping on a plane and I don’t know what will happen. I’m arriving in London armed with some good marketing skills, an EU passport and a bunch of interviews lined up. I do know that I’m going to find work that I enjoy and where I can help my employer in a quantifiable way. But where that may be and who that employer is, I have no idea.
But isn’t that half the fun? How boring would life be if each of us knew exactly what would happen next?
C’mon Wednesday!!
