I love blogging. Without a doubt it is one of the best uses of time for a small business owner or anyone charged with the responsibility of selling or developing relationships. Why?

A blog allows anyone to quickly add content without needing to depend on a programmer. You can share stories about your personal life, you can share ideas on how to better use your product or you can blog about your passion and interests.

The point is that you can use a blog to quickly share any information you want with your customers and potential customers. Equally as important, Google and the other search engines LOVE sites built on blogging platforms such as WordPress and Blogger. All things being equal a site built on html will lose out in the search engine ranking to a blog every time simply because blogs are designed to be updated constantly and the search engines love new content.

Most of the blogs I’ve built I’ve used WordPress because it has a number of plugins that allow you to make your pages and posts more search engine friendly. It is also more robust than any other blogging platform so you have a little more control over the look and feel of your blog.

I have built blogs using Blogger but for one reason only. Google owns blogger and they index content there every hour or so. If you have a new site and you don’t want to wait the three weeks or more that Google normally takes to find a site, link to it from your blogger blog and you’ll get your new site indexed nearly immediately.
