How to Get your Marketing for Free

A few months back I wrote an article about what I was calling funded proposals. You can see that article by visiting funded proposals.

Basically what I talked about was a way of building your prospect list without having to pay for it. It is a very smart concept and I strongly suggest you check it out before going on with this article.

Since then I have expanded this concept and it has been working so well I just have to share it with you. As you know from my free guide my theory on lead generation is simple. Offer something of value for free in exchange for a prospect’s contact information as well as their permission to stay in touch. Follow up with that prospect via email and provide valuable information until he buys something or unsubscribes.

Wow! How is that for a quick summary of a concept that has made online marketers millions of dollars?

In any event, I have found a number of new ways by which you can subsidize your marketing dollars. The simplest is to find an affiliate product to offer after a prospect has signed up to your list.

For example, let’s say that you are a personal trainer. You create an offer and set up your website and marketing system as I suggest in the guide. You then begin marketing. Let’s say using Google Adwords. This means that you pay X amount for every visitor to your website.

OK. So this is what could happen. A visitor comes to your site (landing page, actually) and either subscribes to your list or doesn’t. If he doesn’t he wasn’t likely qualified anyway. If he does, he is automatically added to your autoresponder and you’re able to follow-up with him as you feel fit.

Now this is where it gets interesting. You now have a new prospect in your marketing funnel. That prospect costs you something. Let’s say $2 assuming you pay $0.20 per click (visitor) and your site converts at 10%. Now, the tough thing about lead generation is that not everyone is ready to buy right at this moment.

That is why we put them into an automatic email follow-up system – so we can keep in touch and build our credibility over time. However, that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t make money off of them while they’re making up their minds about our training services.

What we do is find a product that offers us a nice commission for any referral sales we may make. Sticking with our example, a personal trainer may want to offer a fat-loss product that pays $30 per sale as a commission “on the back-end”. What this means is that we already have the prospect’s info so we can follow-up. We offer the affiliate product to him and if he buys it we make an extra $30 for doing nothing.

Can you see where this approach could offset your advertising very quickly? In the above example, each prospect costs us $2.00. If one in 15 decide to purchase the affiliate product then we’re breaking even. Chances are that the affiliate site will not convert that high but any additional commissions could be used to offset our Adwords costs.

Give it some thought. You can build your prospect list for next to nothing if you set your lead gen system up properly.
