AICR

The Association for International Cancer Research Needs Heroes Like You.

--- Dad and Eva June 2007 ---

Many people know that when I am not building websites or doing online marketing for small business owners, I am out raising awareness for cancer research.  Cancer is a terrible condition that affects 1 in 3 people in the UK and is the cause of 400 deaths per day in the UK alone.  I also lost my dad to pancreatic cancer in 2007.

The Association for International Cancer Research is an amazing organisation.  It is a UK-based charity that provides funding for the most promising cancer research projects world-wide.  The AICR currently funds about 200 projects in 24 different countries.  Unfortunately, for each project it is able to fund it must turn down other promising projects due to not having the funds to support them.

Rather than trying to explain all that this wonderful organisation does here, please visit the AICR site directly.

Why I Do This

I am a big believer in two things.  Providing service and continual growth.  My main reason for working with the AICR is to do something to avoid any other families to go through what my family went through with the passing of my father.  By helping to raise money for a charity like the AICR I may not be changing the world but at least I do feel like I’m doing something.

Just as importantly, fundraising has allowed me to face a fear that I have and one that I’d guess everyone has in one form or another.  That is the fear of rejection.    Nobody likes getting rejected but the fact is that the more rejection you’re willing to face, the more successful you’ll ultimately become – in any area of life.   Raising money for the AICR allowed me to overcome this fear very, very quickly.

Don’t get me wrong. I do get paid for what I do but the truth is that I would do this even if I wasn’t getting paid.  The intrinsic rewards of helping a good cause, meeting so many new people and improving my own communication skills are worth way more than what I get paid.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to talk about any of this with me.  Thanks again.
