There are nearly as many reasons for blogging as there are bloggers. Some blog because they love to write. Others blog for money. Some bloggers just want to go off on other people that are actually doing things in life.
Whatever your reason for having a blog one thing is for sure. If nobody sees what you write, well, you might as well be sharing your ideas with your parakeet. At least that way you have a chance at getting feedback.

Next week, I’m heading off to the UK to begin my next adventure and I must admit that I’m pretty excited about it. There is something to be said for making a decision and then just going for it.
I’ve had my European passport for a couple of years now and I’ve been meaning to leverage it more than just by visiting Brazil without needing a visa. So now is the time.

I’ve written before how I find Google to be the most interesting business on the planet. I say this not because they’re mad geniuses that are slowly taking over the world but because they have a business model that defies description.
As you likely know, Google has something called Google Adwords. You can pay Google to have you ads appear when someone does a search on the specific search term you wish to bid on. Without a doubt it is the fastest and best way to get laser targetted traffic to your websites.
But here is the thing about Google. They don’t REALLY publish their rules anywhere where they can be easily found. Instead, they say, “Open an account with us, tell us which search terms (or keywords) that you want to bid on and then we’ll get back to you with a price.”

If you spend even a little bit of time around Internet marketing or Internet marketers (run away!) you’re going to find yourself asking, “What does SEM stand for?”
What SEM stands for is Search Engine Marketing. It is an all-encompassing term that covers every conceivable way of getting traffic or visitors from search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN (or Live Search) and hundreds of other barely significant search engines scattered around the Internet.
Like any niche industry, online marketing has its own language and SEM is yet another one of the many acronyms that we use on a daily basis. To make things more complicated SEM includes sub-disciplines such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO), link-builing and pay per click (PPC) marketing.
There you go. Now you know what SEM stands for.
I’ve just begun a job search and true to form I’m taking pretty much the complete opposite approach to landing a job as most people would. The result has produced some very interesting feedback already.
Here’s the scoop. When I was younger and I was trying to sell something I considered ANYONE that showed even the slightest interest in my wares a prospect. They would go into my “sales funnel” for intermitent follow-up via phone and email as per my Sales Manager’s instruction.
What is obvious now but what never dawned on me back then was that having someone’s business card or email address does not make them a legitimate sales prospect and spending any time following-up with them is a waste of my time – not to mention irritating to them.
The problem is that the majority of sales people (and job hunters) are desperate and they’ll do anything NOT to hear the word “no”. To them “no” is final so they would rather fool themselves into believing that the person is just thinking about it or is too busy to get back to them. That may or may not be the case but spending any time or effort convincing them is not a good idea.
